Eugene Friesen: THE SOUL OF THE WHITE ANT - for 4 cellos. 16 minutes.
"The Soul of the White Ant" takes its title from the book of the same name by South African naturalist and writer Eugene Marais. The piece features some aggressive writing for cellos including uptempo "hocketing," a fugue, odd meters, a short section for an improvised solo with quartet backing, along with some serene and childlike sections intended to convey the complex mysteries of life in a white ant termitary.
Hard copy only. Score parts, and program notes - $50. ($45 plus $5 S&H)
